The image of the Mother of God of Katyn, also called the Mother of God Kozielska, is an image cut in a board with dimensions of 13.5 x 8.5 in the camp in Kozielsk by Lieutenant Henryk Gorzechowski on February 28, 1940. He presents the Mother of God hugging the naked corpse of the murdered to the breast. This bas-relief was also on board the Tu-154 on the day of its tragic flight to Smolensk on April 10, 2010. No part of the icon was found after the crash.
May 17, 1989, the Holy Father John Paul II blessed a wooden copy of the Katyn icon in Rome, made by Stanisław Bałus on a board brought from Kozelsk. She was brought to Rome by Fr.
